Katran – black (Squalus acanthias ponticus)
Reaches a body length of 2 m (usually 1.5 m). Found only in the Black sea waters to depths of 60 m.
Attention. All kinds of old-fashioned recourses are at the base of the dorsal fin spines small venom glands. When you shot the venom and mucus enter the blood stream and cause local poisoning, often accompanied by severe pain and inflammation.
The naked body is olive-brown above and whitish below. Leads benthic lifestyle, often buries itself in mud and sand. The predator, eats fish. Viviparous species. Body length is more than 1.8 m, weight about 20 kg. In our waters common in coastal areas of the Black and the southern part of the Azov sea common to the coast of Europe to England. The stingrays are very dangerous in water and outside of it (caught the bait, etc.) because they can cause serious injury to the poisoned needle. Known cases ended disability and even death of victims.
Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedti)
Snout relatively short and pointed. Above the lateral row of scutes scattered large bone plate. In a sideways range 24 – 50 scutes with radial coarse ribs. The body color is brownish-sandy. Reaches a length of over 2 m and weigh about 80 kg. Inhabits the Caspian, Black and Azov seas. Diadromous species, rising to spawn in the river. Known, as and some other anadromous fish, two forms: spring (arestovych and spawning in the spring of the same year) and winter (the course in the fall or late summer, wintering in the river and spring spawning). Is a valuable target species and, together with the Persian sturgeon and stellate sturgeon the main object of sturgeon breeding.
Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus)
Close to the previous view by body shape and colouring. Characteristic structure has a snout of this species is: in profile it is visibly bent downwards and more massive than that of the Russian sturgeon. In a lateral row 20 – 42 bugs in ventral – 7 – 14. Reaches a length of 2 m. migratory fish, drawn to the middle and southern parts of the Caspian and the Black (North-Eastern part) seas.
Well distinguished from other species of the genus in that the first bug of the dorsal series much larger than the other. The lower lip is continuous. In dorsal row of 11 to 16 scutes in lateral – 52 – 75 is relatively small scutes. The body color is dark to black. Readily forms natural hybrids with other species of the genus, which affects the color and morphology (often, such individuals are difficult to determine). Reaches a length of 1.8 m (usually 1.5 m) and weights about 40 kg. migratory fish. Inhabits the basins of the Black, Azov and Caspian seas. Before the species was once common in the basin of the Aral sea, but today has almost disappeared in the region.
