The content in the aquarium
Tetras hiding have peace and quiet temper, therefore, can coexist in an aquarium with any other fish. Their body is covered with rows of bony platelets, which are reliable protection against aggressive larger fish, but, despite this, it is better to settle them with proportionate neighbours and, preferably, without competition for food on the bottom.
Eat Golden catfish, make it from the bottom that don’t eat other fish at the top. In search of food, they carefully examine the bottom, digging in the sediments, the soil and destroying the remnants of the food. No wonder the fish earned the nickname “the cleaner”. And they eat both the living and dry food. Digging in the ground, they rise from the bottom of the turbidity, therefore in the aquarium, it is necessary to put a filter.But aerosatar for these fish is not mandatory – they can breathe oxygen from the air. They just need to leave access to the surface.
Catfish do not like very bright light, they prefer shady places, so the aquarium should contain rocks, caves, driftwood and broad leaved aquatic plants, creating a shadow. Water can be of any chemical composition, but optimum content is best to stick to these parameters:
temperature – 19 to 24 o C;
pH is 6.5-8;
As a primer it is desirable to use fine gravel or cobble river sand.
Sexual maturity comes at the tetras hiding in 9-12 months. Females lay eggs on the leaves of algae, aquarium walls and rocks. First food for fry – shrimp nauplii and “living dust”.
Under normal conditions, Golden catfish can live to please their owners up to 10 years.
